PPECB R&D unit embarks on air freight trials

27 March 2023

The PPECB Research and Development Unit has embarked on a project where they monitor the efficiency of air freight as a mode of export of perishable products. The products selected for the project are cut flowers, raspberries, blackberries and blueberries which are some of the locally produced perishables exported via air freight. The main objective of this research is to monitor product temperature throughout the export value chain, from field to target market and also to report on product quality under the said handling conditions. The work on cut flowers has been completed and a draft report has been presented for editing. The work on raspberries and blackberries will be reported on by the second week in March. This research forms part of a collaboration agreement or MOU signed between the PPECB and CCA (Cool Chain Association). Due to this relationship between PPECB and CCA the trials conducted are receiving international coverage.
