At the 66th session of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Specialized Section on Standardisation of Fresh Fruit and Vegetables (FFV) Mr Cyril Julius, Chief Operations Officer of the PPECB, was unanimously elected as Vice-Chairperson.
The meeting was held at the Palais Des Nations, Geneva, Switzerland from 30 May to 2 June 2018. As PPECB’s participation is on behalf of the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Mr Julius, with more than 25 years’ experience in the perishable products environment thus represents the South African perishable products industry at this forum.
The core function of the UNECE Specialised Section on FFV is to develop global agricultural quality standards to facilitate international trade. The standards encourage high-quality production, improve profitability and protect consumer interests. UNECE standards are used internationally by governments, producers, traders, importers, exporters and international organisations. South Africa’s participation is thus crucial to ensure that standards can be attained by South African producers and to prevent unnecessary technical barriers to trade.
The PPECB is proud to have Mr Julius represent the organisation on this forum and wishes him well during his tenure.
