During this 12 month development opportunity, successful candidates are placed at inspection-points in various regions under the mentorship of PPECB specialists. There they are exposed to quality assurance practices applicable to specific perishable products. Accredited facilitators also provide formal theoretical training on:

  • Export legislation and certification
  • Factors influencing export
  • Food safety
  • Product knowledge
  • Cold chain management
  • Total quality management systems and viability
  • Recent innovations

The application window opens on 1 October annually and closes on 1 December. Short-listing takes place during December every year and short-listed candidates are invited to attend interviews during January and February. Candidates are notified if they have been successful or not during March and successful students start on 1 April every year.

Valuable, on-the-job exposure is highly beneficial when applying for vacancies, whether at PPECB or in the industry. Although completing the AETP does not guarantee employment it does strengthen your chances of finding a job.
