A call for nomination of candidates for appointment to the Perishable Products Export Control Board (PPECB)

The term of office of the members of the Perishable Products Export Control Board, established in terms of the Perishable Export Control Act, 1983 (Act No. 9 of 1983), will come to an end on 31 January 2026.

As provided for by section 4(2) of the Act, the Minister of Agriculture hereby calls upon the export commodity organizations and organized agriculture to submit before 29 October 2025, names of three (3) persons, together with their CVs, a copy of their ID document, as well as copies of qualifications for consideration towards appointment on the PPECB Board.

A written acceptance of the nomination by the nominee must accompany each nomination.

  • In terms of section 4(1)(a) of the PPEC Act, the following export commodity groups qualify for one seat each:
    • Citrus fruit
    • Deciduous fruit: Pome and stone
    • Deciduous fruit: Table grapes
    • Marine products
    • Processed foods
    • Subtropical fruit
  • In terms of section 4(1)(b) of the PPEC Act, the following export commodity groups qualify for an additional seat each:
    • Citrus
    • Deciduous Fruit: Pome and Stone Fruit
  • In terms of section 4(1)(c) of the PPEC Act, organized agriculture qualifies for one seat.
    • It is essential that nominated candidates for appointment to the Board include individuals who fairly represent different races and all genders so that the Minister can appoint a board that reflects the composition of the South African population.
    • Suitable candidates will be subjected to a personal suitability check, criminal record check, citizenship qualification and verification, financial record/asset check, and confirmation of previous employment verification.
